“Laugh it up at your library” is the theme of the Mitchell Public Library’s Teen Summer Reading Program, which runs from Friday, June 6 through Wednesday, July 23, 2003.
Teens, anyone entering 6th grade on up, can pick up a Reading and Activity log at the Mitchell Public Library after Friday, May 16, 2003. Any teens interested can start reading or listening to audio books to earn points at this time. Also at this time teens can start to earn points for art and writing projects. These activities will run until school starts in August. Starting June 6th teens can earn points by working on craft projects, completing worksheets, or doing library projects. These programs will end on July 23rd.
After you earn 800 points you can turn in your Reading and Activity Logs for a new book. After completing a project before July 23rd you can register to win prizes. The drawing for the prizes will be held after July 23rd. The art and craft projects will be displayed at the library if you want to help decorate the library.
Bring in your old blue jeans and recycle them. Some of the projects are bags, purses, pillows, notebooks and containers made from your old blue jeans. Another project is working with clay. A workstation will be set up in the Young Adult area and when you come down to the library you can work on a project. Also at the workstation will be fun sheets that you can work on. After completing a project you can register for prizes and use them to earn points towards completing your log.
If you enjoy writing or drawing, the library is going to have a Teen Club Art and Writing gallery on their homepage. Draw a picture on an 8x11 piece of paper and your art will be scanned and placed on the Teen Art Gallery Page. There will be stories started that you can write, complete or add to on the Teen Writing Gallery Page. Poetry and other writings can be added to the Teen Writing Gallery Page. Submit your art and writing under a code name and your work will be displayed. All artwork and writings must be approved by the library before being added to the website.
