Area Teens are invited to participate in the Mitchell Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, “Creature Feature .” The craft part of the program runs from June 1, 2006 to July 28, 2006. The reading part of the program runs from May 24, 2006 until school starts in the fall. Teens are invited to come to the library and take part in special events offered throughout this time. Registration will start on May 24, 2006.Teens can pick up a Creature Feature Log or a Teen Snake Activity Log at that time and can begin reading to earn books. Registration can be done online or at the Mitchell Public Library. Creature Feature Logs , Teen Snake Activity Log, and Fun Sheets can be printed off the fun sheet web site. Teens will earn books by reading or listening to books, reading magazines or newspapers, completing fun sheets, doing book reviews, and doing crafts. Help decorate the Teen Area with CD Animals. Bring in used CD and make a CD Animal when you register for the Teen Reading Program.
Special Events
Friday, July 14th at 2:00pm there will be Rodeo Performers in the Community Room of the Mitchell Public Library. Everyone is invited to attend and meet some of the Rodeo Performers from the Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo. The Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo Committee helps with this event.
The Traveling Lantern Theatre Company presents the play “The Hobbit”. For children from grades K-8. Sponsored by Mitchell Parks and Recreation and the Mitchell Public Library. There will be one free performance at the Pepsi-Cola Theater for Performing Arts, 700 N. Main, on Tuesday, July 25 at 2:00pm.
Family Hamster RV Contest
Get your family together and design a Hamster RV made from ALL RECYCLED ITEMS in your house. It should be big enough to display on the tops of the shelving in the Children’s and Young Adult areas in the library, but no bigger.
